The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated on Friday that it is talking to Tesla about heating issues with some of its vehicles and reviewing “possible safety concerns.”

According to Drive Tesla Canada, a number of Tesla owners have complained about heat pumps failing in extremely cold weather.

According to the study, the heating issues persisted even after Tesla resolved the issue by replacing faulty sensors in heat pumps in some 2020-2021 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles early last year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States stated that it is “aware of the issue and is gathering information, discussing the issue with Tesla, and evaluating any safety implications.”

Tesla did not respond to a request for comment. Following 16 consu   mer complaints about the heating and cooling system of Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles’ performance in cold weather, Canada’s auto safety agency announced on Thursday that it has begun an investigation into the system.

A malfunctioning heating and air-conditioning system, according to Transport Canada, “may compromise windshield defogging/defrosting and thus driver visibility.”
